Ambassador Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun has been Permanent Representative/Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva since July 2018. Prior to this post, he served as Director-General of the International Organizations and Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, from September 2016 to July 2018.
Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar in 1993 as Head of Branch/Third Secretary. He served as Third/Second Secretary in the Embassy of Myanmar in Jakarta, Indonesia from 1997 to 2001. After completion of his assignment in Jakarta, he came back to Yangon and served as Head of Branch/Assistant Director in the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yangon from 2001 to 2002. He was transferred to and served as First and Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Myanmar to the United Nations in New York from 2005 to 2009. He returned to Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar and served as Deputy Director at the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2011. He was later transferred to the Embassy of Myanmar in Singapore as Counsellor/Minister Counsellor from 2011 to 2012, and then to the Permanent Mission of Myanmar to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva as Minister Counsellor from 2012 to 2015. He returned Nay Pyi Taw and served as Director/Deputy Director-General at the International Organizations and Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2016.
Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Yangon, Myanmar, in 1992 and received Master of Business Administration from the International University of Japan, Niigata, Japan (2002 – 2004). He was a visiting research fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP), Stockholm, Sweden from April to June 2011.
He is married with one daughter.
